Parents, Patrons, and Friends, Yesterday, we made an announcement concerning Valentine deliveries at the school. Due to the late date of that announcement and our desire to make sure our community partners and local businesses do not suffer further during this pandemic, we have reversed our position. Further, we encourage you to support your local businesses and have items delivered to your home. Craig Wall, Supt.

Parents and Students, It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog! It was great seeing all the kids getting back to school tomorrow. While our soft opening last week went well, we discovered a few areas we need to work on this morning. Please make sure you are screening your children before you send them to school and be patient while we work through our morning screening procedures. We will get faster and make it as seamless as possible. I wanted to remind everyone that this week we have a VIRTUAL FRIDAY! Students will not have to attend school, but will have class assignments to complete. Teachers will be taking attendance based on completion of the assignments. I am attaching a 2020-2021 School Calendar to this message. Days in Green are attendance days and days in Blue are Virtual days. We are glad to be back. Help us be back and stay back. Wear your mask. Watch your distance. Wash your hands. #weareValliant

Patrons and Friends, This morning, we were notified that one of our employees at Valliant Elementary tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. The employee and all other employees that were in "close contact" have been quarantined. Fortunately, no students or parents are affected. Additionally, areas of our campus that may have been affected have been cleaned and disinfected. We are working closely with the Oklahoma State Department of Health and following the protocols established by the VPSD Covid Response plan. Currently, there are no plans to change the start of school, although some programs and classes may be impacted. We are working through how we will handle those issues. I encourage you to help us by working with your children to practice good hygiene, social distancing and by using any means at your disposal to help prevent the spread of this virus. #weareValliant and we will get through this together! Craig Wall, Supt.
MS Football Players and Parents, Coach Shamley would like to try to have MS Football Practice at 4 pm on Thursday, August 20. Should be done before 5:30.
Parents, Students, Patrons and Friends, In an effort to navigate through these difficult times, schools across SE Oklahoma met with many health experts and the Oklahoma State Department of Health to develop a plan for how we would operate should we experience incidents of exposure and positive cases of the virus. Very recently, we have seen a number of schools in our area, begin to adjust schedules, quarantine, and move to virtual learning. Most have chosen those actions because they chose to adopt this plan. It takes any personal aspect out of the decision making process and simply becomes a reaction to the current circumstance. Please take time to read and understand this plan. It is how we will act if necessary. https://5il.co/iup7 Valliant Response Plan
JOM School Supplies will be available beginning August 17th for pick up at 8:00-4:00 at the Media Center as "grab and go". You will remain in your vehicle and they will be brought out to you. If you are unable to pick up the week of August 17-20th, students may pick them up on the first day of school. To make other arrangements please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are a new student please bring a copy of your CDIB card.
Middle School & High School will use last name to determine what day your child will attend "orientation day" the week of the 24th. Elementary students can expect a phone call from their teacher next week. A-C - Monday, Aug 24th D-J - Tuesday, Aug 25th K-P - Wednesday, Aug 26th Q-Z - Thursday, Aug 27th ALL students will begin on Monday Aug 31st with a regular school schedule. We hope to get all the bugs and jitters worked out during orientation week so we are all ready on the 31st. I expect some hiccups and we will be offering leniency during this first week and hope that you will express our staff the same courtesy. This is new to us as well. We share the same goals, and if we all work together we can make this the best experience possible for the kids.
Students and Parents, For several months now, your administrators and I have discussed and debated the proper course of action concerning return to school, plans for that return, and timelines for return. Throughout our discussions, there has been a consistent theme present, what is the right thing to do for our students, our staff, and our community. We have been extremely concerned with the continued unchecked spread of the virus in our own community. 4 weeks ago, the state unveiled a color coded mapping system to represent the spread of the disease in new cases per capita, and McCurtain County has consistently been listed in the Orange status which is the most severe. When the SDE released their plans and recommendations last week, McCurtain County was listed in the Orange 2 status. The recommendations that come with that status are very limiting. Our color status has not changed for the better in the last week. Those recommendations are that we start school using distance learning and that we limit our capacity of kids to no more than 25% on campus at any one time. The state also recommends the wearing of masks for all students at all times, restrict visitors, and curtail extracurricular activities. We have studied these recommendations and have consulted with other Superintendents and Principals at other county schools. We do not believe that starting the school year in Distance Learning is practical, although it will likely be necessary throughout the year. Many of the supplies that we need to start school have not yet arrived. Much as the supply chain has affected everyday items, it has affected items such as computers, disinfectants, and PPE. After much debate, we decided to take the following actions: 1. We will delay our Staff Development by 1 week. Staff Development will now begin on August 10 and continue through the 14th. HS Teachers may have to meet with the K20 Center as originally scheduled. 2. We will be notifying students and parents that classes will begin on August 24, but will be limited to 25% of the student population each day at the HS, MS, and in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. In the lower elementary, appointments will be made for the students and one parent. Teachers will reach out to parents to make these appointments and to notify students on their days for attendance. 3. Face to face instruction with all students will begin on August 31. Masks will be required for all students, teachers, and staff while we remain in the Orange 2 status and will be reevaluated as the status changes. 4. Virtual only students will begin instruction on August 24. 5. Extracurricular activities will continue however, additional safety protocols may be required. 6. Students attending KTC at Idabel will be attending virtually. Students attending KTC at Hugo will be attending in person currently. I am extremely saddened to be making this announcement today. However, we feel it is the most prudent decision we can make. Craig Wall
About Valliant Virtual Academy Although we did the best we could in the time we had to prepare, we know that the distance learning model we had in the spring needed much improvement for our students to have a successful experience. We were very particular about looking for a program to fill the need for a virtual learning environment knowing some students would not return in the fall for various reasons. As we were researching programs the focus was as follows: Meet the education requirements and needs of our students Easy to use and navigate for both student and parent Does not require the parent to be the teacher (minimal parent involvement) Allows our staff to monitor the progress and intervene if necessary Student Oriented / individualized instruction Acellus is the program that we chose that best addressed those concerns. Acellus is a learning accelerator. It uses video-based lessons with cutting-edge technology to accelerate learning, elevate standardized test scores, reduce dropout rates and transition more students into careers and college. Acellus has been providing a virtual setting for some time and has had great success. Here is a link that explains their program. https://www.acellus.com/for-your-school/ There are many options for virtual instruction out there but I recommend, if virtual is for your child, you give this a shot. This is the only option that keeps your tax dollars in our district - This program is free to our students. Your child will remain a Valliant student and have options to participate in extracurricular activities such as athletics, Etc. There will be a Certified teacher assigned to only virtual students allowing them to focus all of their attention on monitoring, providing intervention, and answering questions to our virtual students. Our traditional students will be using the same program on a regular basis and times when school cannot meet in person. This will allow virtual students to easily transition back into a normal classroom post covid if that is desired. We know that this is not an easy decision. If you would like more information or have further questions, please contact the building principals. JOM school supplies should be ready for pickup this year beginning August 10th, the week before school starts. In addition to the supplies a padded backpack will be provided this year to carry a tablet/chromebook. When supplies are available a schedule and directions will be posted. If you are new to the district please bring a copy of CDIB card with you when picking up supplies. For more information please contact Linda Coffman at 580-933-7232 or email@example.com. *****JOM School Supplies do not include a tablet or chromebook but students are reminded to visit the Choctaw Nation website and apply for the COVID-19 Technology Program Grant and the COVID-19 Student Assistance Program Grant for help with these items.
Parents, Students, Patrons, and Friends, Earlier today, the Oklahoma State School Board voted to accept some strongly worded recommendations for schools in Oklahoma in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. These recommendations vary based upon the level of community spread in each county based upon the OSDH Covid-19 Status Map. McCurtain County is currently in the most severely affected status. At Valliant Schools, we are continuing to work on our plans for reopening. The administration will meet together on Monday and reassess how the recommendations approved today will affect our plans. We will notify you if and when our plans should change. We want to be in school face to face with our students. We need your help to make that happen. Please follow social distancing guidelines, wear masks when required, and do whatever you can to allow us to get back to normal. This is not about politics or conspiracies. It is about the health and safety of our kids. Craig
Parents, Students, Patrons, and Friends, Last week, we released plans in the form of FAQ’s detailing how we would return to school. Tomorrow, (Thursday, July 23) the State Board of Education will meet. At that meeting the Board will likely hear recommendations from the State Superintendent which details further restrictions in our ability to return to school. The recommendations made by the State Superintendent will likely be based upon the level of community spread in our county on a per capita basis. Right now our county is in an Orange status on the Governors Covid-19 status map. As a result, schools in McCurtain County are facing huge restrictions in our ability to return to school in a traditional manner. Limitations to the number of students, the requiring of masks, and prohibition of extracurricular activities are likely. While we DO NOT KNOW the full extent of the restrictions, we are confident that they will be severe. We have tried to emphasize that we need everyone’s help. Masks and social distancing are inconvenient, but our ability to return to school is going to be 100% dependent on you helping to prevent the spread of this virus. No conspiracies, no politics, we sincerely need your help, or our schools will never get back to normal. Valliant, we need you. Wear your mask and social distance. Our kids need to get back to school and we know that is what you want. #weareValliant
Parents, Students, Patrons, and Friends, We are releasing information today concerning our return to school. As you know students will be returning to school soon, and we are doing our best to take into consideration how we can return to school safely. We take our roles very seriously. The health and safety of our students, teachers, staff, and community is paramount. We are using our best judgement to make decisions that will allow us to return to school as safely as possible. While we are doing all we can, we desperately need your help. We want to start school and stay in school throughout the year. We need you to take every precaution you can to help us prevent the spread of Covid-19 in our community. If you help, we can be so much more successful. Today, on our website, we posted a set of Frequently Asked Questions that will hopefully address many of the issues that you may have. You can find that document at the following link. https://5il.co/ib4i Additionally, we are posting a document that will provide guidance for what we will do when or if we have an infection at school. We have been working with other schools to develop this plan with guidance from the State Health Department, the State Department of Education, and the Centers for Disease Control. You can find a link to that document here. https://5il.co/ib68 After you take a look through the documents, we would also like for you to complete the following survey concerning your choice of format for schooling for the upcoming year. It is important for us to get this information so that we can continue our planning. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeO You can access the survey at the following link. eRg1fDSLwW9Og6Lm_rMRTZTVMNIGYxEYurPHXDTxxgP-Sg/viewform?usp=sf_link We are working very hard to make this work, and we are sure things will change before school gets here. We encourage you to work with us during these difficult times. It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog! Craig Wall, Supt.
Attention Athletes and Bus Drivers: PHYSICALS for Athletes and Bus Drivers will be held Tuesday, July 14, at 6:00 pm at the John Paul Scroggins Fieldhouse. Cost will be $10.
Students, Parents and Friends, I wanted to reach out today to give you an update on "where we are," relative to our return to school plans. It seems like every day is a new day, and the information that we are being provided to make decisions is constantly changing. We are doing our best, and our hope is to have some plans in place as early as July 15. Whatever those plans might be, I am fairly certain that they will change before we return to school. But, we will return to school. Last week, the Valliant Board of Education adopted a revised school year calendar. This calendar was worked out jointly by the school administration and the Valliant CTA. The calendar moves the start date for students to August 17. Additionally, the calendar adds "virtual days" on some Friday's during much of the school year. These virtual days will have requirements associated with them, but it will not be a day that is required to be physically at school. More information on virtual days will be released in our upcoming plans. Our school is working with a number of other schools in SE Oklahoma to develop a response plan for how to deal with site and district outbreaks of Covid during the school year. The response plan has had input from State and Regional Health Department personnel and provides schools some uniformity in the decision making process. I know that many of you are anxious about how school might "look" as we move forward. It will certainly be different. Right now, we are finalizing plans for isolating and distancing during the school day, while still maintaining as normal a schedule as possible. There will be differences. Please be patient, as we want to try to resume safely, and to get all our kids back to school. In the meantime, please start working on some routines that will likely be necessary as we return. Check your child's health status each morning, including taking their temperature. Begin making plans for how you would deal with day care, etc., if you or your child were sick, or if you had to be quarantined. This year, it's going to be more important than ever for you to help us, by keeping your child that is sick or not feeling well, at home. If we all work together, we can keep this virus at bay. We will make it, together. Craig Wall, Supt.
Parents, Students and Patrons, Today, June 15, Our coaches and I met to reassess our summertime activities due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. Originally, we had decided to adopt the OSSAA recommendations for returning to play through today. While we honestly don’t know the right thing to do, we have decided today that we will allow limited return to play for the next two weeks. While we return to the field/court, we want everyone to realize they we take our students and your safety very seriously. Therefore we will be taking additional precautions to sanitize and avoid contact wherever possible. We will continue to screen all of our athletes for symptoms, contacts, and will monitor their temperature. We will also continue our sanitization protocols. Beginning on Tuesday, June 16, Middle School athletes can begin participating in Summer Pride. Summer Pride for MS begins at 9:00 am. MS Cheer will also begin activities immediately. While everyone has different ideas as to what we should do, we are trying our best to get back to some level of normalcy. We need your help with this. We need you to understand that there are reasons for the procedures we are taking and would hope that you will support us in this effort in athletics and I. Everyday life. Further, we need you to help us by social distancing in the spectator areas, avoid the bleachers, sit further from the field, etc. This is very important as we look forward to returning to school and sports in the fall. The actions we take today may help us get back to normal sooner. Each Coach/Sport will have specific requirements and guidelines as we move forward. It’s a great day to be a Bulldog! Craig Wall

Patrons, Last night during our Valliant Board of Education Meeting, we had problems throughout the meeting with the connectivity of one of our board members. Immediately following the meeting last night, we consulted with Oklahoma State School Board Attorney's for guidance. Following discussions with the Attorney's this morning, more simply, because it is the right thing to do, we have decided to hold an additional meeting, in person, on Thursday, June 11 at 11:00 am to revisit the agenda in its entirety. The meeting will be held in the Library/Media Center. I want to sincerely apologize for this situation. Although we have come to depend on technology throughout this pandemic, we realize that its limitations sometimes expose our own. #weareValliant Craig Wall, Supt.
Valliant Bulldog Football – 2020 – Summer Pride Summer Attendance Policy The health and safety our players is the most important factor in these trying times. Valliant Bulldog Athletes and Parents, As we begin to look toward returning to play, beginning June 1 and continuing until June 15, the Athletic Department has adopted the recommendations with some modification as presented to the OSSAA Board last week. This will allow conditioning, and some sport specific training to begin. All participation is strictly voluntary due to Covid-19 concerns. There will be NO participation of MS Students until at least June 15. HS Coaches will begin contacting students with their specific plans later this week. This plan is subject to change at any time. The OSSAA Board is scheduled to meet in early June.
Valliant Parents, Students, and Friends, The people that work with me hear me say quite often, “it’s going to be ok.” I generally say that when it’s really important that we stay calm and not over react to a situation while we assess the best course of action. “It’s going to be ok.” Don’t panic, use your head, and we will get through this mess together. We have a little more than two months before school is scheduled to resume. Your principals, directors, and I have met often over the past few weeks to begin making plans for returning in August. Our objective is for our students and teachers to return to school like none of this ever happened. We want our school to be a safe and healthy environment for all our kids and have added plans to sanitize and disinfect more than ever before. We hope you will help us by teaching your children to wash their hands well and often. Unfortunately, social media is filled with misinformation. I encourage you to avoid as much of that as possible. It’s not productive and it in many cases is harmful. Our kids listen to our comments and they need us all to be positive and supportive. You also need to know that as we plan, we always try to take into account the “what if’s” so we can be prepared for whatever the situation might dictate. Your administrators, teachers, and support staff love our kids, and we want to ensure that they have a great school experience next year. In the meantime, let’s not worry about what might happen two months from now. I promise that we will not keep you in the dark as we move forward. We will work with our state and local entities and with other schools in our area to make the best decisions with the information we have. Those decisions will always be based on what is best for your kids and Valliant Schools. It’s a lot more than a hashtag, #weareValliant! Craig Wall, Superintendent

Each of them has done an outstanding job and we are proud they are a part of the Bulldog family. They will now be eligible to be selected as the District Teacher of the Year.
Hey Students! We need your help. Why don’t you reach out to your fellow students and teachers by phone, text, email or other means and share a word of encouragement, support or even just say hello? During this time many of us need to hear from others that are sharing in the isolation. For many kids, school is their place to have positive interaction and are really missing school right now. Your teachers also really miss you. Remember, we are all in this together, and together we will make it through. We love you all! #weareValliant
A very special “Thank You” to the Valliant Chamber of Commerce for providing a special “Easter Surprise” for the Grab and Go Meals today. Meals are available at the regular sites across the district. We want to wish everyone a very Happy Easter from the Child Nutrition Department and Valliant Schools! #weareValliant
In light of the ongoing situation with the Covid-19 virus, the Valliant Board of Education will be conducting a Special Board Meeting by teleconference at 5:00 pm on Monday, April 13, 2020 in lieu of the regular meeting scheduled for the same time. We are taking this measure as a precaution to limit the potential for exposure of our board members and the public. Patrons wishing to watch the proceedings may do so by viewing the meeting via Facebook live. The live stream will be available on the Valliant Public Schools Facebook page.
Students and Parents, This next week our school is going through a fundamental change. “Distance Learning” is a new and challenging format for all of us. It’s especially challenging for those of us who have done traditional school like me, for 35+ years. I have learned a lot about Distance Learning in Oklahoma in the past three weeks. Mainly, that no one really knows the right way, the wrong way, or any way for that matter, to deliver instruction without the kids in close proximity. Even within our own sites, Distance Learning will look very different. Why? Simply put, the kids in Elementary vary a lot from Pre-K to 5th grade. They are completely different than the MS kids who are learning to be more independent as students. And HS kids are focusing on college and careers with many different course requirements and electives. As a result, every grade and site will be getting something a little different whether it focuses on enrichment, specific courses, or projects. Parents, we need your support. Your kids need your support. Some of the materials will focus on enrichment of their previously learned skills, but much of the material and coursework will help your child be prepared for next year. We wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t about the kids. We need you to help when you can, but more importantly encourage them to do the work, and reach out to us for help when they have trouble. Many of our students need these opportunities to improve. Remember, it’s not about us, it’s about your kids and their education. Please help them do all they can. Getting their mind off the world events, even for a few minutes at a time, may be really important going forward. Students and parents, be looking for communications from your school, your teacher, or your principal through the many varied media sources that we have used to notify you throughout the year. Most importantly, we all want you to be healthy and safe. We love you all and we miss you terribly. Use common sense and follow the CDC Guidelines. Stay home when you can. You may save the life of someone close to you. It’s a Great Day to be a Bulldog! Craig Wall, Supt.
Students, Parents, and Friends, As we were suspecting the State Board of Education voted to approve the recommendation of State Supt. Joy Hofmeister to close the schools for the remainder of the year while providing "Distance Learning," beginning April 6. Further, all extracurricular activities and events were cancelled citing the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control Recommendations for group size. We knew on Monday that this would likely happen today. Now, we know for sure, and we ask you to help us make the best of the situation. We can do it. Firstly, we do not know all the answers. We are looking at a mix of methods to best be able to serve your educational needs whether it be handouts, or digital material. We are aware that there are limitations, and will make every effort to accommodate those limitations when we can. We don't know the answers yet. So, please give us an opportunity to take a look at the information the State Department provides this week. We have already started working on a plan, and will communicate it to you as soon as we can do so. We have discussed plans to postpone HS Graduation if necessary. Although it is impossible to predict the future, we will be open to moving to a date that is determined to be safe by the authorities. We want those Seniors to have their day. In the meantime, please be safe. The Covid-19 virus continues to spread in our state and others. You have take every precaution to keep yourself and your family healthy. It is important for us all. Craig Wall, Supt.
Parents and Students, Today in a statewide teleconference, State Supt. Joy Hofmeister notified us that beginning April 6, all schools would be providing educational opportunities through “Distance Learning.” Students will not be returning to the school this year. At Valliant, we started discussing and making plans for what Distance Learning may look like for our students. Over the next two weeks, we will be working with your teachers to plan for delivery and support of student lessons. Furthermore Supt. Hofmeister noted that all extracurricular events and activities would be cancelled for the remainder of the school year. The State Board of Education will meet on Wednesday to vote on her recommendations. This is a challenging time for us all. Right now, we do not have the answers to the “what if’s,” and “what about’s,” but we will always provide you the information that we know in a timely and honest fashion. Covid-19 is not a joke. Please use every precaution to keep yourself and your family safe from infection. The reality of our current situation is saddening, and the announcement that we would not be together again this year is disappointing. But the health of our community and family is paramount. We are Bulldogs! It’s time for us to live up to that mascot and do our part. None of us have ever been through something like this, but we will come through it together. #weareValliant It’s a Great Day to be a Bulldog! Craig Wall

The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted today to close all schools from March 17 until April 6. No school or extracurricular activities. We are working to develop plans for providing meals to students that will need them. I ask you to remain patient with us as we work out those plans. I encourage each of you to take whatever precautions you need to stay safe and healthy. During this time encourage your child to read, play and enjoy the extra time away from school. We will be providing educational opportunities for students and parents to use if needed. Be looking for those next week. It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog!
Valliant Students, Parents, Patrons, and Staff, Today (Mon) the State Supt will be mtg via teleconference at 2 pm with District Supts to provide guidance concerning the Covid-19 crisis. Parents, Patrons, Students, and Staff, State Supt Joy Hofmeister has scheduled another statewide teleconference with District Supt’s to discuss the constantly changing situation with the spread of the Covid-19 Virus (Coronavirus). Earlier today the OK Dept of Health released information about the presence of additional cases in the state. Immediately following the teleconference I will release any new information that is learned. In the meantime, please do all that you can to keep you and your family as healthy as possible. Practice good hygiene and social distancing as much as possible. I have been in contact with all our district administrators and I assure you that the health and safety of our students, staff and community are paramount in our minds. Right now, we are planning to resume school on March 23, but that could change at any time. It’s a Great Day to be a Bulldog!
Earlier today, State Supt. Joy Hofmeister held a teleconference with District School Supt’s across the state to provide further information and detail concerning the Covid-19 virus (Coronavirus) and it’s effect on public education. At this time, Supt. Hofmeister is NOT recommending the statewide closure of schools due to lack of evidence of community spread in the state. She did however recommend that everyone continue to practice good hygiene as previously detailed, limiting exposure to large groups, and staying home if you are sick. So, as of Friday, March 13 we will be planning to resume school as scheduled following Spring Break. This is a fluid situation, and I will continue to update you when details warrant. Enjoy your Spring Break, and take measures to keep you and your family safe and healthy. It’s a Great Day to be a Bulldog!

The MS Baseball team will not practice on Friday due to the weather. Practice has been scheduled for 3:00 on Sunday.
Parents, Students, and Patrons, I would like to provide you with some information relative to the ongoing world wide concern of the spread of the Coronavirus. First of all, let me say that there are no known cases in our area. However, this does not preclude us from being cautious and using whatever precautions we might to help keep our students, staff, and community healthy and safe. I have attached a letter with information from the CDC that details the precautions to take. This virus should be treated like any other virus that might be circulating. Help us keep our community as safe as possible. Craig Wall

Ms. Vaught’s STEM classes recently visited the Oklahoma Geological Survey OPIC in Norman. Students received “hands on” learning experiences in the field of geology. In addition, they met an anthropologist, seismologist, petroleum geologist and a field geologist and could ask questions. The students learning experience was not over at the end of the trip. They returned with fossils and minerals to research as well as their very own Raspberry Shake Seismometer. The Raspberry Shake will be producing real-time data which is sent to and used by OGS seismic analysts. If the device detects an earthquake, scientists will use that data right away to start figuring out where the earthquake happened and how big it was! That makes our students true citizen scientists! This is the first seismometer placed in our area by a research group.

Parents, Patrons, Teachers, and Staff, As you may remember, our start of school got interrupted by a problem with our water. As a result we used up all our reserve days for the school year. Over the last several days we have been looking at how we could "make up" a couple of those days. We sought input from lots of sources, and have made a decision that we feel best enables our school to be prepared for any future emergency that may arise. School will be in session on Friday, September 20 and on Friday, October 11. For the first time in quite some time, the buses will run, and the bells will ring on Friday. Our students will have an opportunity to experience the excitement and energy of attending school on a Football Friday. It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog! #weareValliant
IT’S OVER! THE BOIL ORDER IS LIFTED! Great news. The Valliant Schools will be in session on Monday. Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes. Thank you so much to the Valliant PWA and The City of Valliant. I’d also like to thank all those agencies and groups that offered assistance to us so that we could get back to school. It truly is a Great Day to Be a Bulldog!
Parents, Students and Patrons, it has been communicated to me today that we will not have any test results that would lift the Boil Order in Valliant until at least Thursday. Therefore, with much disappointment, I have made the decision that we will not have school either Wednesday or Thursday. I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience. #weareValliant
Parents, Patrons, Students and Staff, Today we have met with officials of the McCurtain County Health Dept, the Dept of Environmental Quality, and Valliant PWA. The City of Valliant remains under a Boil Order and results of additional testing will not be available until at least Tuesday afternoon. As a result, SCHOOL WILL NOT BE IN SESSION ON TUESDAY, AUG 13. I understand that this is a frustrating and inconvenient situation. I encourage everyone to support those entities that are working to rectify this problem. #weareValliant
I want to remind everyone that due to the current situation with the “Boil Order” in the City of Valliant, that there will be NO SCHOOL on MONDAY, AUGUST 12. I will be monitoring the situation closely and will seek options to return to school as soon as possible. I encourage everyone to remain hopeful for a positive outcome and support everyone that is working on the problem. #weareValliant
Parents, Patrons, Teachers and Staff, you may be aware that the City of Valliant has been notified of a failed water purity test today. The City is in the process of notifying all residents that the City is currently under a “Boil Order.” I have been in contact with Valliant PWA and City Officials concerning the issue. The PWA is currently flushing the system and will continue to do so. Although I am assured the failing sample came from an isolated area, it is my duty to act with an abundance of caution concerning the health and safety of our students. Therefore, I am dismissing school on Monday, August 12. It is my hope that additional testing will show that the system has been cleared and that we can resume our normal schedule as soon as possible. I am truly sorry for the inconvenience. Please Share

Please stay weather alert and know you are welcome to shelter at the school if the need arises. Be safe.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Oklahoma Dept. of Health notified our school concerning the potential for the spread of Mumps into our area. THERE ARE NO SUSPECTED CASES IN THE VALLIANT AREA AT THIS TIME! However, they wanted us to be aware that there are currently 20 cases among residents of McCurtain County, and another 7 reports under investigation. Mumps is a virus that is spread from one person to another by coughing, sneezing, kissing and other types of direct contact with saliva, such as sharing food or drink with an infected person. Symptoms of mumps include swelling on one or both sides of the face, tenderness of the salivary glands in the cheek and jaw area, slight fever, headache, general aches and muscle pain. Our school nurse has been very much out front in making sure that we are monitoring the situation closely. Right now, the Health Department does not believe that the disease will spread to our area, but as families come together during the holidays, there is some potential for exposure due to the ongoing outbreaks occurring in Oklahoma and Arkansas. A person with Mumps is contagious for about 5 days, however, the onset of symptoms in someone that is infected may take 12 to 25 days. If parents observe symptoms of mumps in their child, we are strongly requesting that the child be kept at home for the five days after those symptoms are discovered. This is the most effective way to prevent the disease from spreading. Two doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine that are required for school attendance is 88% effective in preventing mumps. The MMR vaccine is recommended on or after a child's first birthday with a second dose at four to six years of age. The McCurtain County Health Department recommends that parents follow-up with their child's healthcare provider to determine if the child is up-to-date on their MMR vaccination. Children that need to receive the MMR vaccine may get it from their healthcare provider or their local county health department. That is the reason they are notifying us now. We need to be aware of the symptoms and procedures to follow so that we can be prepared as we return to school in January. Please follow the link to read the Health Department Fact Sheet for more information concerning Mumps. https://www.ok.gov/health2/documents/Mumps.pdf
Valliant businesses and patrons beware. A company is making cold calls to businesses in the area selling advertisements for T Shirts that will be thrown out at games.
