On Wednesday, October 21, Valliant High School hosted the 2026 FCCLA Southeast District 5 Leadership Conference. 397 students from 17 schools across Southeast Oklahoma attended.
The theme was "You've Got a Friend in Leadership" and the students learned about the importance of communication and connection as leaders.
Our keynote speaker was Dr. Mandolen Mull with MullMentum Consulting. Dr Mull is a NeuroLeadership Consultant, Change Scientist, professor, and founder of MullMentum Consulting, but she might tell you that her real job is helping people understand why humans can be so wonderfully complicated.. She spoke with the students about the importance of making connections as leaders. Dr Mull also delivered inspirational message that affirmed to the students that they have a place to belong in the room they are in, and leadership is more than being in charge.
We also had the honor of having an FCCLA state officer present to conduct the Southeast District 5 officers. State Vice President of Membership, Nathalie Martinez from Westville High School, opened our meeting, performed the officer inductions, as well as gave the State report. We are thankful for her, as well as her adviser making the trip.
The Southeast District 5 officers are: President-Journey Cole (Broken Bow HS), VP Public Relations- Kinley Carrell (Broken Bow HS), VP Membership- Kennedi Green (Wright City HS), VP of Community Service-Adalie Hoegh (Tushka HS) and our very own, VP STAR Events - Lily Smith (Valliant High School).
Oklahoma FCCLA is focused on literacy as the state service project through the initiative "Leaders are Readers". FCCLA has partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to help reach children from birth to 5 years of age with a free book each month. Kinsey Cox with LIFT was present to tell us about the Imagination Library, as LIFT is the community partner in McCurtain, Choctaw and Pushmataha Counties. Each FCCLA chapter was challenged to donate books and money to support literacy and the Imagination Library. Together, we collected 201 books, and $516 - that's a wonderful accomplishment!
We thank everyone who helped to make this event a great success!

Congratulations Valliant Middle School art students! We are excited to share that Valliant Middle School swept all six (6) places in the Soil Where It All Begins poster contest. They will now head to the area competition. If they win there, they will go on to the state competition which will be in the spring of 2027. The winners are as follows: Sixth Grade - 1st place Mykah Parsons & 2nd place Harper Breshears; Seventh Grade - 1st place Remi Jo Tom & 2nd place Elizabeth Landreth; Eighth Grade - 1st place Sadie Bean & 2nd place Tristin Linehan.

Valliant Middle School would once again like to give a BIG thank you to the Valliant Alumni Association. Because of their donation, the middle school was able to recognize and reward our students and staff for the month of September. We were able to recognize and reward four (4) students of the month, recognize and reward a student for their perfect attendance during the month, recognize and reward a staff member for their perfect attendance during the month, and recognize and show appreciation to one of our staff members for all they do in the middle school. #BulldogStrong
